Dr Rajendra Prasad

'TECHNOLOGY-PATENT.COM with a logo of MERIT-INDIA was founded for rendering consultancy services by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, a technocrat having served for life with India's premier scientific and technological research agency, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). Dr Prasad superannuated from CSIR as Head 'of International Scientific Affairs at the end of 2007. The main aim of setting up of 'MERIT-INDIA' as well its portal 'TECHNOLOGY-PATENT.COM' is to enhance global competitiveness of industry and businesses by managing thier innovation successfully. Dr Prasad brings in his rich and diverse experiences in technology related domains and wide range of international exposure.


Besides CSIR, where he had his basic grounding, Dr Prasad also held important positions with other important institutions from time to time either on loan or on deputation as detailed below:

  • World Bank (2008) for strengthening 'science and technology' in Africa

  • The British Council (1998) for strengthening scientific cooperation between India and UK. and for implementing a prestigious higher technical education project in India

  • Ministry of Science & Technology (Govt. of India) (1987-90) for strengthening research and development in Indian industry

Starting as an active bench scientist, Dr Prasad contributed in development of a number of pesticide technologies that were successfully transferred to industry for commercial production in India. Later he was exposed to a wide range of industries and assessment of critical technologies in different sectors, viz., energy (coal & petroleum), drugs and pharmaceuticals, cement, fertilizers, carbon / acetylene black, environment, polymers, refrigeration and air-conditioning, electronic and electrical components etc.


Dr Prasad has strong interest in 'environmental and science policy issues' and also founded 'Indian Network for Soil Contamination Research' which has about 200 members from across various scientific and research institutions in India. He is on the board of 'Pacific Basin Consortium for Environment and Health'

Dr Prasad is a Registered Patent Agent with the Government of India's Patent Office and is adept in performing work on patent applications related to many fields. By virtue of his working in a large multi-disciplinary organization for a long time, he is able to deal with a large number of scientific and technical fields, viz. i) Chemical processes including fertilizers and pesticides, ii) Biochemical processes and technologies, iii) Genetic engineering, iv) Drugs, pharmaceuticals and herbal compositions, v) Process technologies: paper, textiles, rubber, wood etc., vi) Plastics and polymers, vii) Natural products, viii) Essential oils, ix) Agro and forest based products, x) Biogas and wind energy, xi) Artificial Intelligence and 3-D printing, xi) Mechanical and automotive engineering and components, xii) Civil and structural engineering, xiii) Earthquake engineering, and xiv) Aeronautics and avionics.

He has also been designated as SCIENTIFIC ADVISER to the Controller General of Patents & Trade Marks in India. By virtue of this, he is often invited by large corporates and Judiciary to give his opinion on many high profile patent litigation cases.

He is also an adjunct faculty at the Dow University of Medical Sciences, Karachi and a frequently invited speaker in UN sponsored international conferences on science, technology and innovation issues. He is also privileged to conduct IPR training workshops in Karachi University, Kyoto University and many Indian institutions and industrial associations.

Dr Prasad is widely travelled throughout the world in connection with his official duties as well as for scholarly networking.
